Border router capacity upgrade (London) (Scheduled)
  • Priority - Medium
  • Affecting System - AS41000 network
  • On Monday the 3rd of October starting at 13:00 BST, we will be upgrading our THN-RT1 core router located in Telehouse North in London with new hardware. This upgrade will involve us swapping out the some modules in the hardware for higher capacity versions and so we will be shutting down all of our peering and transit connections that are connected to that router for the duration of the work.

In addition, we will be moving over to a higher capacity backhaul ring between Iomart DC12 (formerly LDeX1), Iomart DC13 (formerly LDeX2) and Telehouse North as part of this work. The new backhaul ring does not include Equinix MA1.
The new backhaul ring is already connected and working, but not yet carrying any traffic. The old backhaul ring will continue to be available after the migration in case of any issues.

Once the router has been upgraded, we will also be taking the opportunity to introduce a new Tier 1 transit connectivity provider as well as upgrade the capacity of the connections to our existing transit providers and peering exchanges.

Due to the nature of the work being undertaken, the network should be considered at-risk for the duration of the maintenance window. Our network is highly redundant and we have significant capacity elsewhere to be able to carry the normal traffic volume whilst the THN-RT1 router is unavailable, so we are not expecting any disruption to services, although you may see increased latency.
